Et brev fra den amerikanske kystvakt datert 26. november 1943, der de takker for hjelp de fikk i forbindelse med noen undersøkelser i farvannene omkring Island.

Et telegram datert 26/12-1940 fra Forsvarsministerene via Den norske marines liaison offiser på Island løytnant Marstrander.

Et telegram fra en "Rear Admiral Scott" datert 24/12-1940.

Hvilken forbindelse denne Admiral Scott hadde til mannskapene på Jan Mayen i 1940 vet jeg ikke.

Løytnant Marstrander (som har videreformidlet telegrammet) var Den norske marines liaison offiser.

Her bæres tydeligvis i land forsyninger til personellet på Jan Mayen, som var det eneste frie stykke Norge under krigen.

The home of the weather reports.

All trough the war a meterological station has been in operation on the small Norwegian island of Jan Mayen.

It is situated far north in the Arctic Ocean between Greenland and the north of Norway. This outpost guarded by a small garrison of Norwegian troops, has, through its meterological obeservations, been one of the most important stations for weather reports for convoys crossing the north Atlantic to America and Russia and has played a vital part in the fight for the domination of yhe seas.

This picture gives a good impression of the scenery of the island. In the foreground can be seen wreckage and timber washed up on the beach, the only kind of wood there is in the island.
